  2. WHOI OBSIP 2010 At-Sea Activities • ShatskyRise Active-Source Expt. (Jun Korenaga, Yale; Langseth; 17 July – 13 Sept., 2010) • 28 short-period OBS deployed, 28 recovered. • Lau Basin Passive Expt. Recovery (Doug Wiens, WUSTL; Kilo Moana, 24 Nov. – 8 Dec., 2010) • 31 broadband OBS deployed in 2009, 30 OBS recovered. • LoihiMicroseismicity Passive Expt. Deployment (Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, WWU.; Kilo Moana, 24 Sept. – 23 Sept., 2010) • 12 short-period OBS deployed for 9 months.

  3. WHOI OBSIP 2011 At-Sea Activities (Completed) • Hydrates Active-Source Experiment, Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi Canyon (Carol Lutken, U. Miss; PE-26, R/V Pelican and GoM01-11, M/V Bunny Bordelon; March 28 – April 9, 2011) • 12 short-period OBS deployed, 12 OBS recovered • Gulf of Alaska Law of the Sea Active Source Expt. (Ginger Barth, USGS; Norseman II, June 16 – June 23, 2011) • 14 short-period OBS deployed, 13 OBS recovered • Cascadia SeaJade Passive OBS Recovery (Jeff McGuire, WHOI; Wecoma; June 23 – June 27, 2011) • 10 Keck OBS deployed in 2010, 10 OBS recovered • LoihiMicroseismicity Deployment (Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, WWU.; Kilo Moana, 16 July – 23 July, 2011) • 12 short-period OBS deployed in 2010, 12 OBS recovered • Bering Sea Law of the Sea Active Source Expt. (Ginger Barth, USGS; Marcus G. Langseth, July 8 – Sept. 02, 2011) • 17 short-period OBS deployed, 17 recovered

  4. WHOI OBSIP 2011/2012 Planned • Cascadia Initiative Deployment (CIET; Wecoma; Oct. 30 – Nov. 12, 2011) • NoMelt Active/Passive Deployment (Jim Gaherty, LDEO.; Marcus G. Langseth; 26 Nov. – 30 Dec., 2011) • Marianas Active/Passive Deployment. (Doug Wiens, WUSTL; deploy from Thompson 26 Jan. – 09 Feb., 2012; Marcus G. Langseth, 06 March – 23 March, 2011) • Cascadia Initiative Recovery (CIET; Wecoma; May 07– May 21, 2012) • Juan de Fuca/Cascadia Active Source Expt. (Suzanne Carbotte, LDEO; Wecoma; 27 June – 22 July, 2012) • Blanco Transform Passive Experiment (Nabelek; to be scheduled.)

  5. WHOI OBSIP 2010/2011 Base Support Activities • Continued testing and repairing our Guralp CMG-3T broadband seismometers. • Continued testing of our short-period geophones on our slab. • Calibration of Differential Pressure Gauges. • Continued inspection of our glass ball instrument housings. • Integrated the new Quanterra PB44 Baler with WHOI OBS (power control, ethernet switch). • Continued testing of our Seascanclocks. Some success: 3 ms/day -> 2 ms/day. • Testing and Integration of a Chip-Scale Atomic Clock (CSAC). • Have found significant corrosion on our 7075 Al broadband seismometer pressure housings. Have experimented with different surface finishes and additional galvanic isolation. Will need to replace some housings in the near future. • We continue to replace some D2 hardhats because of cracks and other problems from handling, deployments and shipping. Likewise for some of the D2 cabling. • Tested the new Nanometrics “Horizon” intermediate-period seismometer packaged for OBS use. Some issues with “SLIP” interface. Had to return one unit to Nanometrics. • Have had both of our lab. vans stripped, sandblasted and repainted. • Lithium Batteries and U.S. Federal Regulations

  6. Data Archiving • Following data sets at DMC: • KorenagaShatsky Rise; • Wiens Lau Basin Passive; • Lutken Gulf of Mexico • Barth Gulf of Alaska • Barth Gulf of Mexico • Data sets to be archived: • Caplan-AuerbachLoihi • McGuire Cascadia
