  1. Mr. Strezo’sSocial Studies Class 6th grade curriculum night

  2. A Little About Me • I was married in June of 2012. • My wife had a baby last May. • I am 6’ 3” and 25 years old (my most frequently asked questions by students). • I graduated summa cum laude from Illinois State University in May of 2011. • My two favorite hobbies are playing guitar and snowboarding.

  3. Teaching Experience • This is my third year at WBO. • I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th, grade reading for a year at Taft Elementary School in Lockport. • I taught 4th and 5th grade summer school at Holy Family School in Chicago.

  4. Curriculum • Full curriculum schedule is available on the Troy website. • We cover Ancient Rome to the Age of Exploration • Roughly 700 B.C. to 1700 A.D. • Teaching techniques • Group work/centers • PowerPoint presentations/taking notes • Reading: whole class/leveled groups/partners • Use of new Chromebooks, maps, games, writing activities, projects, videos, songs, role playing, etc. • We will use the textbooks as well as many other supplemental texts.

  5. Grading Policy (school wide) • 60% for summative assessments • Tests and summative tasks • Summative tasks will be in place of the test for the World religions, Asia, and middle ages units. • 40% for formative assessments • Quizzes, class work, and homework

  6. Homework Policy (school wide) • 2 days per week (on average) • Late homework = 10% reduced credit up until end of unit; after unit 0% credit • If on vacation or an unexcused absence 50% credit will be given for all formatives. Tests can be made-up for 100% credit

  7. Website • My webpage can be accessed through the district/school webpage or by typing tstrezo.weebly.com into an internet browser. • I have very helpful links, videos, and games. • Students can print off copies of assignments in case they lost or forgot it at school.

  8. Textbook • Every student was given a textbook to take home. • We have a classroom set that will be used for all in class activities. • There is an online textbook available if necessary (I don’t recommend using this over the real book). • The students have the username and password in their planner, but it is also on my webpage, the 6 white webpage, and the 6 white info sheet you are receiving tonight from the ELA teachers.

  9. Contacting Me • Take a 6 white info sheet if you don’t already have one. • If you e-mail or call me I will get back to you within 24 hours. • If your child has a question about homework please e-mail me, or have them!!!! • Please sign up for Remind101 (directions on 6 white info sheet) so you can receive homework reminders via text or e-mail.

  10. Thanks for Coming! Enjoy the rest of Curriculum night.
