  7. Stay Safe/Injury Prevention • SAFETY PRECAUTIONS – try to avoid common injuries associated with your sport through education and awareness. • APPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT – can reduce the risk of injury. Be sure equipment fits properly, and replace damaged equipment.

  8. Stay Safe/Injury Prevention • PROPER CONDITIONING - Many sports injuries occur because players are out of shape or have not conditioned their bodies to meet the demands of the sport. Building endurance and developing good sports skills help players minimize sports related injuries.

Stay Safe/Injury Prevention • PLAYERS OF SIMILAR SIZE - The difference in height, weight, skill level, and maturity of the players can unnecessarily put younger players at risk. • HYDRATION- Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after a sports practice or game. Water and sports drinks will keep the body hydrated and replace important minerals and electrolytes.

  10. Stay Safe/Injury Prevention • Supervision - Safety should always be the first priority of coaches, referees, and adults supervising sports practices and events.

  11. INJURIES • When injuries occur, prompt medical attention is important. Many sports injuries can be treated with Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (RICE), and specific exercises to strengthen the injured body part.
