  2. What is a Spontaneous Process? • A process that can occur without an input of energy • Example: ice melting • Spontaneous is also known as energetically favorable • A spontaneous reaction requires NO energy

  3. What is the Metabolism of a Cell? • The totality of an organisms chemical reactions • If a cell reaches equilibrium, its metabolism has stopped, meaning the cell has died

  4. Example in Action • Plants use chloroplasts to get chemical energy from the sun • They use this energy and through a series of exergonic reactions make endergonic reactions(chemical reactions) • This is shown by the use of this energy to create Glucose which is stored by the plants

  5. To answer the question... • Spontaneous reactions create exergonic reactions that store energy. • These reactions create energy for the cell. • The energy produced by these reactions is used in endergonic reactions, which are reactions in the cell that need energy in order to take place, such as metabolism.
