  1. Dr Jeanine Downie on Cysteamine Cream Cysteamine Face Cream - Cysteamine Cream® is the novel biological depigmenting treatment for hyperpigmentation concerns. The active ingredient is cysteamine. Naturally present in human cells, cysteamine reduces melanin in the epidermis. More effective than hydroquinone, Cysteamine Cream® removes brown spots, treats pigmented marks and produces a uniform and light skin complexion.

  2. Scientis, a leading dermatology research company based in Geneva, Switzerland, has released the world’s first cysteamine-based cream to reduce pigmented marks concerns. Cysteamine Cream® is a novel, super potent skin pigment reduction main agent intended to reduce stubborn discoloration, pregnancy mask, dark spot, lentigo, and for hyper-intensive skin lightening. I interviewed Dr. Jeanine B. Downie, a board-certified dermatologist and expert in pigmentary concerns to learn more. 1)What do you think of leaving the product on overnight once skin acclimates? The majority of my customers leave it on their bodies for 30 to 60 minutes. They leave the Cysteamine on their faces for only 15 to 30 minutes. Once the skin acclimates, I think it is fine to leave the Cysteamine on the body overnight. I would not recommend leaving it on the face overnight. If the skin gets inflamed at all it could lead to increased pigmentation. 2)The brand recommends applying a hydrating product after washing it off. What do you recommend customers use after as a moisturiser? I strongly recommend the hydrating moisturizer like HA5 from SkinMedica or Sente Dermal Repair. For the body, I recommend an Aveeno body moisturizer after the Cysteamine.

  3. 3)How long do you recommend using Cysteamine for? I would recommend people to use the Cysteamine for as long as it takes to fade out the brown marks, and after that decrease to three times a week for maintenance. They must use sunblock with an SPF of 30 every day or this will not be as effective. 4)I’ve seen a couple of dermatologists recommend using this and alternating with a prescription retinoid. What do you think would be best approach? I do use retinoid with customers as well, but I do not alternate. Instead I recommend the Cysteamine consistently every night on the darkened areas and I have them use the retinoid only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, without Cysteamine all over. If they have very sensitive skin then I will only have them use retinoid once a week. When the weather is warmer then it will be better to alternate. In this dry cold weather, I would not recommend alternating because the retinoid can irritate the skin.
