Solar System. Our solar system is located in the Milky Way Galaxy. All of the eight planets orbit ,or revolve around the Sun. By Alivia Bentley. Sun. The sun’s core is 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. “Sol" means sun. The sun is larger than all eight planets combined.

  1. Solar System • Our solar system is located in the Milky Way Galaxy. • All of the eight planets orbit ,or revolve around the Sun. By Alivia Bentley

  2. Sun • The sun’s core is 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. • “Sol" means sun. • The sun is larger than all eight planets combined.

  3. Mercury • Mercury is one of the inner planets. • This planet is the closest to the Sun.

  4. Venus • The atmosphere is made out of carbon dioxide. • Venus is almost the same size as Earth.

  5. earth • Earth is the third planet from the Sun. • Earth is the only planet with organisms, or living things.

  6. Mars • People use rovers to see what Mars is like. • Mars has huge volcanoes and is home to Olympus Mons. • Mars is nicknamed “The Red Planet.”

  7. Asteroid belt • The asteroid belt is between Mars and Jupiter. • Asteroids orbit the Sun.

  8. Jupiter • Ganymede , Jupiter’s Moon, is bigger than Mercury and Pluto. • A day on Jupiter is 9 hours and 55 minutes in Earth Ti me.

  9. Saturn • Saturn has rings. • Saturn was named after a Roman god.

  10. Uranus • Uranus is a gas planet like Saturn and Jupiter. • Uranus is nicknamed the “Ice Giant.”

  11. Neptune • Neptune is four times the size of Earth. • Hurricanes move ten times faster on Neptune than on Earth. • Neptune has the most violent weather.

  12. Pluto • Pluto is a Dwarf Planet. • One year on Pluto is 90,465 days. • Pluto has two moons which are Charon and Nix.

  13. Comets • Halley’s Comet, the most well known comet, may return again in 2061. • Comets come from the Oort Cloud and Kuniper Belt.

  14. Black hole • Black Holes are similar to vacuum cleaners. • A black hole has 3 main parts.

  15. The Universe • The universe is made out of dust, gas, clouds, galaxies , and life. • The universe is very BIG!

  16. The big dipper • The Big Dipper is a constellation. • It belongs to a group called the Ursa Major.

  17. Stars • Young stars are called protostars. • Our universe has at least a billion stars.

  18. Axis • Earth ‘s axis is slanted. • Uranus’s Axis is all the to the side. Axis

  19. Earth’s Seasons • Earth has seasons because of the tilt of its axis. • If it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Spring Winter Summer Fall

  20. Ursa major • Ursa Major is Latin for “Large Bear.” • The Ursa Major is seen from some continents.

  21. The Milky Way • We live on this Galaxy. • The Milky Way Galaxy is a spiral galaxy.

  22. More solar system facts • Our solar system was formed 4.6 billon years ago. • There are 5 dwarf planets. Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Makemake, and Haumea. • Remember the order of the solar system by remembering the saying My Very Eager Mother Just Sent Us Nine Pizzas. • Our planets are separated by the asteroid belt. • Mercury , Venus ,Earth , and Mars are all made out of rock. They are also the inner planets.
