  3. Context • The PRRAC was founded during the post-civil rights era • Main issues of the era were institutional oppression • Causes a perpetuation of poverty in poor communities, and a lack of upward mobility • The PRRAC aim to halt the continued pattern of housing segregation and educational discrimination • These issues are the effects of institutional oppression

  4. Your Social Activist Organization (Making Solutions Happen) • 109th session of the Human Rights Committee in Geneva • PRRAC members: • Made up of lawyers, along with professors with a background in civil rights • Allies of the PRRAC: • U.N. Human right committee • The Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law • Key board members work as civil rights lawyers

  5. Politics of Intersectionality PRRAC focus is the intersectionality of Poverty and Racism  Racism and Poverty due to the privileges given to whites Federally funded housing are more likely to live near low-performing school

  6. Concluding Remarks PRRAC is striving to end institutional oppression and provide housing and education equality Housing developments are reproducing and perpetuating segregation The quality of education intersects with housing because poorly funded public schools are located closer to low income housing Equality will lead to upward mobility for poverty stricken communities “The feeling of love and support from a diverse community is what fair housing is all about” – Philip Tegeler, Executive Director of the PRRAC
