  3. FILE EXTENSIONS • File extensions now have “x” at the end of them • OR “tx” (template)" • OR “m” (macro) • OR “tm” (template-macro) • WORD-.docx • EXCEL-.xlsx • PowerPoint-.pptx • ACCESS-.accdb

  4. CAN OPEN PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF DOCUMENTS • will open older documents in “compatibility mode • at top of the document "Compatibility Mode" appears next to name of file • ORafter opening it in 2003, • click on the OFFICEbutton, > CONVERT(converts it to 2007)

  5. Microsoft Office Button Upper-left of window • FILEcommands • similar to “FILE”menu in MS OFFICE 2003 • right side of menu lists your “recently opened documents “ • Buttons at bottom-right to change options/settings • (In MS OFFICE 2003, you had to go to: TOOLS > OPTIONS)

  6. ZOOM • lower-right corner of window • Drag slider to the right to zoom in • drag it to the left to zoom out. • Click the percent number to the left of slider • will open Zoom dialog box • If your mouse has a wheel • hold down the CTRL key and turn wheel forward to zoom in

  7. RIBBON: 3 BASIC COMPONENTS: 1 3 2 • Tabs • Groups • Commands

  8. TABS: • An “activity” area, for example in MS WORD: • HOME • INSERT • PAGE LAYOUT • REFERENCES • MAILINGS • REVIEW • VIEW

  9. GROUPS: • Each tab has • groups that show related items

  11. QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR • upper-left of the Ribbon • Frequently used commands • SAVE, NEW, OPEN, CLOSE, etc. • Can add as may commands as you wish.

  12. ADDITIONAL TABS • Other tabs appear for other activity areas • i.e. tables, drawings, diagrams, and charts. • When you click away from these specific activities • , the extratab disappears, and the default groups reappear

  13. Mini Toolbar • point at a specific area of your document •  A “Mini”, fadedtoolbar will appear • When you point to the Mini toolbar, it will become solid, • you can then select one of the options

  14. DIALOG BOX LAUNCHER Small diagonal arrow at bottom-right of a “group” • Once the dialog box opens: • Looks like MS Office 2003

  15. Temporarily hide the Ribbon • If you want more space to work • Double-click one of the tabs in the upper-right area • Groups & commands will disappear, leaving more “white space” • To go back to “default” double-click the tab again

  16. Live Preview • Allows you to instantly preview certain changes to a document before committing • Makes selecting the perfect font, size, format, and design template a breeze • Preview “STYLE” changes before applying them • Available for most Galleries in Office 2007

  17. This Live Preview in PowerPoint allows you to instantly see what font changes will look like by rolling over the options

  18. THEMES • NEW themes to create documents with same fonts, colours, & effects. • PAGE LAYOUT > THEMESgroup >THEMES • In PowerPoint: DESIGNtab > THEMESgroup > MORE • Can create newTHEME COLOURS • PAGE LAYOUT > DESIGNtab > THEME COLOURS button

  19. SmartArt • Found under the Insert tab in the ribbon in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook • A drawing tool for creating graphics that illustrate relationships

  20. HELP • Every MS Office program has a question mark in the upper-right hand corner for HELP • Key in your ``Help`` question in the textbox

  21. KEY TIPS • Shortcut commands • Press ALT to make the Key Tip badges appear • Use ALT key plus letter • OrALT key plus number

  22. KEY TIPS cont. • Then press the Key Tip for the tab you want to display • i.e. press “ALT + H” for the Hometab. • all the Key Tips for that tab's commands appear. • Then you can press the Key Tip for the command you want.

  23. System Requirements *Grammar and contextual spelling in Word is not turned on unless the machine has 1 GB memory.
