  2. We will use a square area model to look at multiplying fractions. Example Let’s make the height of our unit square ½. Let’s make the base ¼ . Move the second square over the first. Note the unit square is now broken into 8 equal pieces. 1 The answer is the intersection of the two shadings.

  4. When multiplying fractions, fly across the top and then across the bottoms… Multiply the numerators Then multiply the denominators

  7. Example #3: When multiplying mixed numbers, change these to improper fractions. Then cross cancel, if possible.

  10. Example #6: A cabinet maker needs ¾ of a running yard of a pine wood for the door of one of his cabinet. He will be making 8 cabinets. How much wood will he need altogether? The cabinet maker will need 6 running yards of pine wood.
