Change Over Time Essay Problems observed in student responses: • they misuse of evidence by placing events in the wrong time period • they make reference to global processes happening over a vague period of time without any anchoring dates • they create lists of information rather than well-structured arguments More hints: • Organize paragraphs by CHANGES and CONTINUITIES • When speaking of Changes: be clear! (ie: change from what?) • Make sure and include a discussion of GLOBAL CONTEXT (ie: comparisons to other regions, connections to global processes, interactions among regions) • ANALYZE the change and continuities: WHY? • DO NOT discuss events that are not related to the questions • DO NOT include long sections of material that are outside the timespan of the question
