African Statistical System • National level The ASS comprises: National Statistical Systems (NSS) comprise • producers, including national statistical offices, and line ministries and public agencies • the coordinating body; • data users, including key users such as policy makers • data suppliers, including business establishments and households; • research and training institutions Statistical Development in Africa: A Strategic framework

African Statistical System • Sub-regional level In the sub-regional context, the ASS comprises: • AFRISTAT • The UNFPA CSTs • The statistical divisions and units of ECOWAS, SADC, WAMZ, UEMOA, CEMAC, COMESA, EAC • The statistical component of IMF African Technical Assistance Centre Statistical Development in Africa: A Strategic framework

Outline Vision Our vision as core producers of statistics in Africa is the installation of a statistical infrastructure, through enhanced partner-ship among stakeholders at all levels, capable of providing and promoting the effective management and utilization of quality data and information for evidence-based policy and decision-making, moni-toring development programmes and democratic accountability. The strategic framework Overall objective To engage all stakeholders in a statistical development process that would ensure that African countries are equipped, with statistical systems that can support their economic, political and social development efforts, in a sustainable manner.
