  5. “Statistics show that if you take a hundred people and start them at the same place by the time they are sixty-five, …only one will be wealthy, 4 financially secure, • 19 will still be working simply to survive, 22 will be deceased while 54 will be flat broke and dependent on the government or their families for their survival…” • Take 2 people, teams or departments, give them same resources. 16. KI Typical Human Nature “I want a very easy job that I can do for few hours, which pays me a lot of money to last me through my many years of sheer feast and partying! ” ― Africa, the author’s cousin brother • Compare with what you want in a person against what he truly wants… There is a huge canyon between… • This is the gap we fill… This is why we created Kambarangwe Institute!

  17. Anything happening about you, behind it is a cause; and everything communicates something about you… Our performance in CECAFA‚ President Kagame Cupor even Olympics, disclose that compared to an average Kenyan or Ugandan, a typical Tanzanian is less industrious; love it, hate it! “Comprehension without critical evaluation is impossible.” ―Fredrick Hegel

  18. In Kenya and Uganda telecoms (80% of telephones are business calls) was the preferred brand • In DRC detergents were top preference • Mosi and Castle Beer brands emerged the national fondness in Zambia • Carlsberg Beer and Chisango condoms ranked top in Malawi A research by Ogilvy Africa based on preferences revealed the following facts: • In Tanzania DSTV, an entertainment channel, emerged as the leading preference…

  19. Association of Tanzania Employers (Guardian of June 5, 2008) concluded that graduate employees under perform at work! They aren't motivated to work hard… • It is no wonder that only a handful of locals head organizations back home nor a mystery why Kenyans control corporations and Olympics nor even why they have association in the White House… Truly… Truly…

  20. “Compared with what we ought to be,” concluded Prof. William James of Harvard, "we are only half awake. We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources… • Stating the same thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits... • He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use!” ……………………………………….At KI we help you to identify your potential and to exploit it…

  21. Here’s another problem you face as a leader of men ……………………………………… “I have taken course after course of effective management training,” laments a typical manager‚ “I expect a lot out of my employees and I work hard to be friendly toward them and to treat them right. But I don’t feel any loyalty from them. I think if I were home sick for a day, they would spend most of their time gabbing at the water fountain. Why can’t I train them to be independent and responsible—or find employees who can?” (S. R. Covey)

  22. The effects of slavery and colonialism on self esteem both at personal and national level play major part. At the root it is in the nature of the beast but… Other setbacks include language barrier, socialism—which sadly demonized and reduced competitiveness and industriousness to monstrous endeavors. Others challenges include ICT and rapidity of pace of change and economic crisis, …but at the head, is slowness to respond …

  23. The variety of education and stereotype form of training available today supply this handicap, failing people to identify and pursue what they want in life… Yet… …leaving them demotivated doing things they hate or don’t know if they should be doing in the first place... Thus…

  24. Looking back, I had set and met my career goals and was having tremendous professional success. But it‘d cost me my personal and family life. I didn't know my wife and children any more. I was not even sure I knew myself and what was really important to me. I had had to ask myself; “—is it worth it?” (S.R Covey)… It is for this that I, the author resigned and chose to pursue writing and training―solution to my own and problems you are facing…

  25. With globalization, economic depression, shrinking foreign aid, contracting job openings vis-a-vis urgency for self sufficiency and EAC at hand, significance of a new curriculum in our education, HR Management, youth empowerment and creation of a wider, healthy middle class‚ competitive public and private sector cannot be overstated… Besides…

  26. Ambitions of our youth skewed toward art, modeling and music as opposed to academics, farming or industry; …and considering the fact that youth are the future workforce, leaders and bearers of family institution …unless we prepare the people, organizations, and the nation to break this mindset we become purveyors of the underdog status and laid-back people or nation Thus…

  27. Any meaningful education or training of the moment therefore has to… • Unearth self confidenceand desire to be top, to win, to succeed, to prosper • Reclaim latent potential among our people • Develop and make use of these talents in order to • Increase performances academically in schools and

  28. Raise preference for labor against leisure and • Promote labor productivity andthe spirit in which we work • Easiness‚ efficiency and quality of work • Enhance self sufficiency in public sector • Enhance a strong, vibrant private sector and organizational performances • Better our people’s lives and freedom • And the overall national growth • It follows therefore…

  29. Urgency for reorientation of our people`s mindset cannot be overemphasized… • "If there is one thing I am proud to be remembered for as my legacy …is to have helped in reorientation of (Ugandan) people’s mindset!” ―President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in What Makes People Rich & Nations Powerful

  30. Questions About Education • What is education? Write down some definition of your own and see if you aren't astonished to find even the educated may not know what education means! • What are its sources? its roles? • Who is educated? How do you identify a learned person? • Do you at home‚ school or workplaceeducate or simply give instructions? • Education has to tell us about us. We can learn from other sources but… Education comes from a Latin word Educo : to educe, to draw out from within. The correct education or training is not only people centered but especially mind sourced…

  31. KI • “Our business is composed not of land or buildings. Not even of the capital invested, but the caliber of our people…A group of people who work a little better every day in products, services and ideas.” Truly… Truly… “The human mind is our fundamental resource,” declared Reginald Mengi. …

  32. KI • Take time to ponder about this exciting question before you click on to hear it from the horse’s mouth! Ready? Go… Truly… • “The secret of our success lies outside the bottle!”(in people)—Coca Cola Company Atlanta Georgia What is it that makes Coca Cola the top brand in the whole world?

  33. KI • “To every pleasant working environment there is an equal and parallel magnitude of productivity!” • It is a downright lie! No computers or machines, no air-condition or nice words, no bonus or money can retain top minds or make people work harder or improve services or extract results… Some commonplace studies state that if working environment is pleasant, productivity increases. Others say bonus and incentives motivate staff to work hard…thus… Truly…

  34. KI • Shocking, isn't? yet it is true! Make reference to Columbus’ expedition. Think of Julius Nyerere, Nelson Mandela! Rosa Parks! Mahatma Gandhi, Barak Obama! Why? Why? Why? • The author is a walking bill board of this verity More shocking however is the fact that no unpleasant environment, no disincentives nor discouraging utterances can dissuade a truly motivated person!

  35. Notice the force used by the baseball player in four slots below. Yet what you see isn't the original force for the power is internal and it is in response to what we want in life: to succeed, to win, to be top, to be recognized, better food on table, a happy family and proud spouse etc!!! Think about it….

  36. KI Distance travelled in time or space is what you as manager can control. You and almost every other training fail not only to influence but consider the internal will which is why improvement has been so slow‚ if any! Work Done = Force x Distance Consider equations A‚ B‚ C and D. with a constant D A). W = F x D B). 15 = 3 x 5 C). 45 = 9 x 5 D). 0 = 0 x 5

  37. KI …if determination, strength of character, spirit, resolve, willpower, enthusiasm or force is zero, work done will be ZERO! This force is an internal one. Not physical! Not horse power. No matter hours spent or the distance travelled, but…

  38. Or did you not know that a person performs poorly under poor state of mind? Have you ever taken trouble to ask yourself why some students, employees, schools, organizations industry or nations fail when others prosper under same conditions?

  39. At Kambarangwe Institute of Leadership & Innovation, we place great attention to mindset and personal touch… • “The greatest mistakes physicians (and most academic instructors) make,” as said Plato, “is that they attempt to cure the body without attempting to cure the mind; yet the mind and body are one and should not be treated differently!” Yet… • World Health Organization defines health as “A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

  40. Lack of information or misinformation about what is success and wealth, why succeed or prosper & how to do it are behind what happens to us but having a chief aim or major purpose in life is key… Do you have one? Your people? What does success mean to you?

  41. Motivation or enthusiasm is impossible without connection to individual’s inner person. We have to inspire people to know and have desire to win. To succeed… Enthusiasm is derived from a Greek word En Theos, In God! Nothing exterior ever triumphed the author has concluded Emerson concluded that “Nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm!”

  42. Sadly only very few people realize they cannot win unless they either aspire to be top or aim higher. Did you know that the winner takes it all... In 1976 Olympics the gold medalist in 100M splinting won only by just one-tenth of a second In 1947 Armed the racing horse won $761,500 13 times against the 2nd fast runner’s dismal $75,000 while the gap was only a nose at finish line In filming of Razor's Edge‚ star actor, Tyron Power earned 75 times as much as his assistant Noonan even though they looked identical, had gone to same school, yet Noonan performed most odious parts and not for his name but Mr. Power’s! Indeed…

  43. Indeed… “The tragedy of life,” said Dr Benjamin Mays “doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. A (real) tragedy lies in not having a goal to reach for. It’s not a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled. It is a calamity not to dream. It is not disaster to be unable to capture your ideal…it is a disaster to have no ideal to capture. It is not disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no starts to reach for… Not a failure but low aim is Sin!”

  44. How do you know you are in the right vocation? This is the one in which you will be happy and can achieve the best! If you haven't found something worthwhile for which you are prepared to die, you haven't found your true self nor your life's true purpose! Mandela singled out a free and equitable SA‚ concluding that it was mission“…for which I am prepared to die!” No wonder he is regarded like a god! Envying him is foolish! Have you found your goal in life―a goal that God intended for you?

  45. At KI we offer as our KPI to transform failures among students, hopeless youth and street children, mediocre employees or weak departments into stars almost like magic. How? It is an understatement but simply put we connect with trainees own needs and we give them desire to win and possess new life and purpose in their lives and faith in God and themselves “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” —Henry brook Adams Think big, 54. Stop here.

  46. What Is Success to You!? A 4x4 car‚ a big house‚ three meals a day‚ a few long necks of a famous beer‚ a degree or simply a political position There are two common ways that people mistakenly look upon success 1. They feel they are successful as soon as they are sure that others look upon them as very successful and 2. They assume they are successful because they feel superior to others (Dr. O Batista) ………………………………………………………………………………………………..Click to see what is to us which distinguishes us

  47. KI “To laugh often and love much, to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest people and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others, to give one’s self; to leave the world a little bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this to have succeeded!” —Ralf Waldo Emerson

  48. Why then do graduates remain in the middle when actually they should be leading; • They believe education is knowledge. It is not knowledge but action. It is the ability to tame nature and especially oneself… • They believe knowledge is power. It is only when put to use… • They assume education is in classrooms and degree papers. It is simply not true. • They simply are naïve of the fact that self–training has gained high opinion over the classrooms… KI • When one graduates from college education or learning is over. Education is a continuous endeavor. You will see how even Emerson had to learn from his maid… • They believe with education you rule. Instead you must serve people • They believe education is done by passing info on. It is by drawing it from inside out…

  49. KI • No other factor of success can beat human relations… • The highly paid engineer‚ lawyer‚ auditor‚ marketing expert‚ manager or economist is not one with top engineering‚ lawyering‚ auditing‚ marketing‚ management or skills in economics… • It is the one who has top skills for and compassion in human problems and desires...

  50. KI One day Ralph Waldo Emerson and his son tried to get a calf into a barn; Emerson pushed and his son pulled. The calf, stiffened his legs and stubbornly didn’t move an inch… • Emerson's elderly Irish house maid, realizing the whipping her genius boss had been enduring before the unschooled calf came to his rescue. • So putting her salty motherly finger in the calf’s mouth and letting the calf suck her finger as she moved, whistling, she gently led the calf into the barn! • No wonder shocked Emerson declared that “Every man I meet is my superior in some way. In that I learn of him!”
