ACS 2010 • Data are no longer collected as part of the Decennial Census • ‘Short form’ only, 10 questions (all housing units) • Age, gender, race, Hispanic Origin, relationship, housing unit, rent vs. own • ‘Long form’ sample information (1 in 6 housing units) • Income/poverty, education, occupation, Journey-to-work, others

ACS 2010 • Decennial Census is a point-in-time ‘snapshot’ • All housing units counted • ACS is an annual survey: • 3 million households nationwide sampled over 12 monthly surveys (1 in 46 rate), then aggregated • ACS products issued in 1-year, 3-year and 5-year Estimates: • Varies based on population

ACS 2010 • 1-year Estimates (today’s discussion) • Populations of 65,000 or greater • U.S., states, Berks County, City of Reading • 3-year Estimates: • Populations of 20,000 or greater • Above, plus Spring, Exeter, some school districts • 5-year Estimates: • All other geographies except blocks • Municipalities, Tracts and Block Groups, school districts

ACS 2010 • Remember: • Census 2000 and 2010 are Snapshots (April 1st, one day) • ACS 2005 and 2010 are aggregations of 12 months • Direct comparisons should not be made; examine trends over time instead • Census 2000 items presented here are 1:6 samples (low margins of error) • ACS 2005 and 2010 are 1:46 samples (higher margins of error) • All Berks County data shown do include the City
