Afghanistan • Developed and finalised the draft Code - waiting for approval. • Formation of Afghanistan Breastfeeding Promotion Partners (ABPP). • Establishment of National Breastfeeding Promotion Board. • Host of South Asia Breastfeeding Partners forum-3. • Kabul declaration on IYCF • Government promised to move breastfeeding up on the priority list of health programmes.

Bangladesh • Country-level revitalisation of the breastfeeding movement. • National Conference on Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding organised, 500 participants. • The National Infant and Young Child Feeding Strategy has been finalised. Curriculum revision in light of IYCF; • Formation of training committee for establishing Breastfeeding Management Centers;

  11. BangladeshAction Plans for 2007 • Curriculum revision • Conduct TOTs 3 in 1 course • Identify research agenda, develop grant proposals; • HIV and Breastfeeding Policy approval - produce booklets for advocacy

Bhutan • Actions and Plans 2007 • Assessment of BFHI has been carried out, with a view to revitalizing. • Advocate for maternity leave for 14 weeks and worksite accommodation for breastfeeding; • Survey on IYCF practices; • Advocacy for approval of BMS Code by National Assembly; • Reactivation of National Committee on promotion and protection of breastfeeding as National IYCF Committee.

India • Increased interest • National consultation on IFE and IF-HIV • Partnership Government of India and UNICEF strengthen • Strengthening IYCF in the teaching in medical schools has • A national plan of action developed • State level implementation • Serious consideration is 11th Five Year Plan for a budget head.

  16. India Action Plans for 2007 High level cal attention; calling for ensuring a budget head for IYCF in 11th plan (already happened 29th dec) Capacity Building of State for skills training Campaign on 1st hour breastfeeding to save lives.

  18. Nepal • National capacity has been increased to impart skills training on Infant and Young Child Feeding. • The Nepal Breastfeeding Promotion Forum – the local IBFAN group - organised the South Asia Breastfeeding Partners’ Forum -2. • A draft strategy document for IYCF is ready.

  19. Pakistan Score: 75.5/150 Grade: C Colour rating: Yellow Rank in South Asia: 4th

  20. Sri Lanka • Intensified monitoring and evaluation of the Code. • The country has already started working on thegaps revealed by WBTi, focusing on: • Bottle feeding, • BFHI, • Maternity Protection and • Infant feeding and HIV.
