  2. Premature delivery of a baby is often cited as a reason behind low birth weight. When a baby spends less time in his mother’s womb, he/she doesn't grow or gain weight like other babies. A baby receives a lot of weight during mother’s pregnancy, so lesser than 37 weeks of gestation is not good. There are other major reasons as well. One of the primary reasons is the mother’s health. Unfortunately, not enough focus is given to pregnant women in the underprivileged section. As a result, there is a direct effect on the children who are born to them. It is equally important that corrective actions are taken for pregnant women to avoid any kind of health issues during birth. Babies who are prematurely born are weak and small. There are a lot of factors associated with the mothers that contribute to low weight: Mother's age - For healthy birth, mother’s age largely matters. Problem of teen mothers is quite alarming and thanks to child marriage in India, girls as young as 13 also get married off. Girls below 15 are at high risk of low birth weight. 3. crucial to focus on saving younger girls from unwanted pregnancies. Multiple births - A lot of women from lower socioeconomic vertical have multiple children without any family planning. This also contributes to low birth weight as babies are mostly premature Mother's health and various other factors - In lower economic backgrounds, pregnant womens’ health often takes a backseat. They do not get adequate rest and are expected to work like usual. This leads to poor health and there are more chances of deformities as well. Some of the other factors include inadequate prenatal care, poorer pregnancy nutrition, and pregnancy complications. All these are interconnected with poor fetal weight. The ideal weight of a baby should be 2.5 kg to 5 kg. It is important to prevent preterm births and in this regard, prenatal care is vital. How is CRY working towards this issue?
