  3. There are 5 main geographical areas: 1- THE ATLANTIC AND GULF COASTAL PLAIN 2- THE APPLACHIAN HIGHLANDS 3- THE GREAT PLAINS 4- THE PACIFIC SLOPE 5- THE CORDILLERAN HIGHLANDS

  4. 1- THE ATLANTIC AND GULF COASTAL PLAIN: (runs along the Atlantic Coast from the Texas – Mexico border to NY city) Many important cities grew upalong this line because the waterfalls provided power for factory machinery.

  5. 2- THE APPLACHIAN HIGHLANDS: A line of low mountains. The quality of the soil is mostly poor. However the “Great valley” from NY to Tennessee has fertile soil with many farms.

  6. 3- THE GREAT PLAINS: One of the USA’s most importantagriculturalarea. • Producing: • grains, • soya, • beans • livestock meats.

  7. 4- THE CORDILLERAN HIGHLANDS: Run west from the GreatPlains and end at the Rockymountains.

  8. 5- THE PACIFIC SLOPE: Includes the rich and fertilevalleys of California, Oregon and Washington.
