Whenwe are ill, weusuallysee a doctor: (makeanappointmentwith the doctor) Thedoctor: • examinesour body – listens to ourlungs, breathing, measureourbloodpressure • asksabout the symptoms • diagnoses the case • prescribessomemedication Then, wego to thepharmacy (chemist‘s) to get our: • antibiotics • painkillers • vitamins • Oitments – a substance used on the skin as a cosmeticor medicament • linctus - a syrupy taken to relieve coughs and sore throats When the illnessistooseriousthepatientistaken to the hospital to becured or operated.

  4. Diseases and theirsymptoms What are the known diseases and aches? Diseases are divided into: • Children diseases: chickenpox, measles, mumps, polio, german measles (rubella) • Common diseases: stomachache , toothache, headache, sore throat, cold, flu, pneumonia, diarrhea, stroke, heart attack, bronchitis • Incurable diseases: AIDS, cancer, polio Besides diseases there are also various disorders like eating disorders – bulimia ( people eat a large quantity of food in a relatively short time and then either take laxatives or vomit) anorexia (people have a fear of becoming fat and thatś why don´t eat, or just little) or behavioural disorders of children

  5. What are the commonest symptoms of these diseases? The most commonest symptoms are • temperature • fever • insomnia (nespavosť) • pain • cough • sweating • shiver • loss of appetite • cold • weakness • sore throat • sneezing • youcanfaint - nausea

  6. Diseases and theirsymptoms. What are the symptomsof The symptomsofflu are • fever – high temperature • weakness • shiver • headache Thesymptomsofpneumonia are: • pneumonia • nausea (nevoľnosť) • cough • sweating, etc. Thesymptomsofcold are: • cold • sorethroat • runny / running nose
