  5. What Is a Goal? A dream is a wish your heart makes, but a goal is a dream with a deadline.

  6. SMART goals are • Specific • Measureable • Achievable • Realistic • Timely

  7. GOALS Specific goals answer the questions: • What am I you going to do? • Why do I want to do it? • How am I going to do it? Use positiveaction words – read, study, ask, earn, increase…

  8. GOALS Measureable goals answer the question: • How will I know if I have achieved my goal? Concrete criteria for assessing progress

  9. GOALS Achievable goals answer the question: • What steps must you take to attain your goal? Know your strengths and how to use them!

  10. GOALS Realistic goals answer the question: • Am I willing and able? Something you can achieve

  11. GOALS Timely goals answer the question: • What is the time frame? By the end of the year…

  17. On the handout you need to write a SMART goal you would like to accomplish this school year (long-term). It can be academic, social or behavioral.

Examples • Get to school on time with all my materials 95% of the days this semester. • Stick up for peers who are treated poorly by classmates on the playground whenever I feel safe doing so this year. • Raise my hand at least once in every social studies class this semester. • Earn an A is Science and an O for effort all 4 quarters.
