  3. DFA Guarantees • No country will be excluded from participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup • National Anthems of all participating countries will be played • National foreign flags of all participating countries will be flown

  4. Milestones Achieved • State Protocol services rendered at: • Preliminary draw (25 Nov 07) • Confederations draw (22 Nov 08) • 500 day Celebration (Mangaung, 26 Jan 09)

  5. Milestones Achieved • Formed National Protocol Steering Committee (DFA, LOC, Host Cities and Provinces) • DFA Missions in Berne (Switzerland) and Vienna (Austria) facilitated EURO 2008 Skills Transfer Programme for sister departments (June 08)

  6. Strategic Focus Areas • State Protocol Training • Foreign National Symbols (Flags and National Anthems) • Support for African Legacy Programme through International Mobilisation (SADC Road Shows)

State Protocol Training • Protocol Alignment Training W/shop(23-24 Feb) • Joint DFA Diplomatic Academy & FIFA/LOC Protocol Initiative • Alignment of State Protocol Procedures with FIFA Event-Specific Protocol • Integrated approach to Protocol Practices to be rendered nationally during 2009 FCC and 2010 FIFA World Cup

SADC Roadshows (African Legacy) • Programme for SADC Mobilisation (SA current chair of SADC) • Partner with the National Football Association of each country • Use a ‘local’ derby televised nationally as a platform to reach entire country • Lobby relevant stakeholders such as LOC, DTI, Sports and Recreation, Safety and Security, Environmental Affairs and Tourism etc to present readiness and opportunities/benefits for SADC • Missions to also host cocktails for ‘local’ Diplomatic Corps for purposes of disseminating information

Strategic Thrust • Promote high Protocol Service Standards and uniformity throughout South Africa • Execute consistent Quality Control and implement corrective measures where necessary • Ensure integration of unique cultural aspects specific to the different Provinces • Will render Protocol services in all FIFA/LOC events leading to 2010 • On track with preparations • Have Executive support
