3. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.“ Joshua 6:5

4. 1. The Enemy Stronghold Israel Faced: that had to be conquered

5. Jericho Was A Secure City! Joshua 6:1 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. Joshua 2:5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out.   Joshua 2:7 … And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.   Lower Wall 12-15 ft. + rampart 20-26 ft. Upper Wall 8 ft. but 46 ft. above ground level.

6. OUR SIN our fears our defeats our deceit our anxieties our envying Jericho stands for all those things that we can’t get victory over on our own but will hurt others and eventually destroy us if we don’t.

7. Jericho’s Walls Come Down Is there some wall that seems to stand as an imposing obstacle before you? A family situation that just keeps getting worse A nagging addiction   An unforgiving spirit   An illness that doesn’t seem to get any better   A person who “pushes your buttons”   A job that is a constant source of frustration   A physical frame that is keeping you from doing what you want to do   A circumstance that feels out of control.   A financial need that is beyond your reach

10. 3. The Unusual Strategy Joshua Followed:

11. 1. The army and the priests were to walk round the city walls once each day for six days carrying the ark of the covenant and rams horns. 2. They were to do this in absolute silence. 3. On the seventh day they were to march round the walls seven times this time the priests were to blow their horns as they marched.

12. 4. Then when the circuit had been completed the seventh time the Priests were to give a long loud blast on the horn which would be the signal for all the people (who by this stage numbered well over 2 million) to shout at the top of their voice upon which it was promised that the walls of the city would crumble and fall down, thus making entrance into the city and the overthrow of the enemy.

GOD’S WAYS ARE NOT OUR WAYS OBEDIENCE IS THE TRUEST FORM OF WORSHIP   It is one thing to say we honor the Lord but it is another to do what He tells us to do… When it results in ridicule from others When it goes against our instincts When it conflicts with our desires When it means a delay in the resolution of the issue
