3. Terms You Might Hear • Positions: Attack, midfield, defense, goalie • Critical Scoring Area • Restraining line • Offsides • The Draw • Shooting space • “Subbing on the fly”

7. Time Factors & Scoring (Rule 4) • High School: 25 minutes “stop-clock” • Clock stops after goals, after every whistle in last 2 minutes of each half, for timeouts including officials’ timeouts • Middle School: 25 minutes “running-clock” (unless coaches and umpires agree differently) • Clock stops only after every whistle in last 2 minutes of each half, for time outs

8. Types of Fouls • Minor Fouls (annoying) • administrative/procedural fouls and miss-plays • Major Fouls (safety) • jeopardize safety of players (offensive / defensive fouls) • Some major Fouls require that a card be issued • Misconduct/suspension • Goalie/goal circle fouls

9. Are these mouthguards legal?? Why not? Do any of your high school players currently play with a mouthguard like this? … 

10. Common Minor Fouls • Empty Stick Check • Body Ball – deliberately played with body. (does not include kicking ball) • Covering – when a player covers the ball with her stick • Warding (attack only) – uses arm/elbow to prevent check (get push to prevent ward)

11. Major Fouls • Rough/dangerous check, or reach across body to check • Check to the head (Automatic Yellow Card) • Slash (Automatic Yellow Card) • Holding / held check • Dangerous Play (Automatic Yellow Card) • Dangerous Propelling (Automatic Yellow Card) • Dangerous Follow-Through (Automatic Yellow Card) • Crosse in the sphere • Initiate crosse to body contact

Major Fouls (cont’d) • Use crosse in dangerous or intimidating manner • Use webbed area of crosse to hook bottom of opponent’s crosseIllegal cradle • Block, Charge, Push • Obstruction of Free Space to Goal (“shooting space”) • Three Seconds • Detaining with arm, leg, body, or crosseForce her crosse through opposing crosse(s) so that her crosse contacts her body

15. Team Fouls/Offsides • A team may only have 7 (seven) players on or over the restraining line in their offensive end • A team may only have 8 (eight) players on or over the restraining line in their defensive end (7 + goalie)

18. Self Start (new for 2019) Self Start means that the player who got fouled does not have to wait for the referee’s whistle to restart play on most fouls that happen outside the Critical Scoring area.

19. Penalty zone (new for 2019) • Any major foul inside the CSA that will result in a free position at one of the hash marks, the entire zone must be cleared
