  2. FEW’s Legislative Tiers • Tier I • Issues considered of utmost importance to female federal workers. • Tier II • Issues that impact all federal employees regardless of gender. • Tier III • Issues that affect all women.

Paid Parental Leave Act (S 80/No House bill yet) • Would provide up to eight weeks paid leave for mothers giving birth • Would provide five days for fathers • Would provide five days for parent of newly adopted child • Introduced by Sen. Ted Stevens (AK-R) • 4 co-sponsors • Referred to Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

What Else Is FEW Doing? • Drafted and printed FEW Legislative Agenda for 110th Congress • Compiled scorecard and issued Press Release • Updated employment statistics including federal retirees totals for first time • Hand-delivered packets to EVERY legislator that include Legislative Agenda, issue papers and employment statistics • Sent out numerous Press Releases • Drafted and posted Action Alerts as necessary • Bi-weekly updates to FEW members

What Can I do? • Become familiar with FEW’s Legislative Agenda • Identify your national, state, and local legislators and their respective positions on FEW’s legislative agenda items • Become familiar with the legislative process • Use the available resources – print, broadcast media, the internet, FEW publications – to keep up-to-date on issues affecting women and federal employees • Respond quickly to action alerts by communicating FEW’s position to your legislators • Educate coworkers, friends, and family on these issues and the need to participate in the legislative process • VOTE!!!
