  1. Marksville High School District/School Alignment Plan Proposal It is the vision of Marksville High School to become a school of academic excellence that fosters productive, life-long learners with community involvement and parental support.

  2. One District…One Dream Academic Goal: Marksville High School will meet the Fundamental Practice Level or above in the critical element of student engagement.

  3. NEEDS ASSESSMENT In 2009-2010, Marksville High School attained a score of Level 2 (minimal) in student engagement. Engagement was simply defined as the observation of on-task behaviors in students. Engagement will now be defined as the observation of students being overtly active in the accomplishment of the objectives. Evidence of implementation will include walk-through observations documenting active engagement, in which students will be ranked as Level 1 (wandering), Level 2 (watching), Level 3 (working) and Level 4 (engagement).

  4. Implementation Strategies 2010-11 The Marksville High School Walk-thru Observation Form will be restructured to include the four areas of engagement, including Level 1 (wandering), Level 2 (watching), Level 3 (working) and Level 4 (engagement). Teachers will receive professional development in class-wide student engagement, involving activities that allow for overt student activity, including the use of ABCD cards and student whiteboards. Faculty meetings will be restructured to include presentations by teachers about successful engagement strategies that have worked in their classrooms. Walk-thru observations will be used to determine the level of student engagement in classrooms and the instructors requiring assistance in heightening student engagement. The parish coaches will also be in-serviced In the use of the Marksville High School Walk-thru Observation Form and will utilize it in their observations. One District…One Dream

  5. Implementation Strategies 2010-11 The teaming process has been restructured to include a student engagement component, during which time teachers will share and formulate strategies to heighten class-wide student engagement. The MHS Building Leadership Team will complete a book study on Learning Driven Schools: A Practical Guide for Teachers and Principals by Barry Beers. Teachers will begin peer observations, which will be collegial in nature and designed to give teachers additional ideas for heightening class-wide student engagement in their classrooms. One District…One Dream

  6. Objective: Students will participate in overt activities in the accomplishment of educational objectives. One District…One Dream
