How do I prepare? • What do I really know about what veterinarians do? • Not doing this because you “love animals” • Think about medical mode, applying for medicine • Can I work for a veterinarian? • Middle School to Freshman in High School • Are there other ways to get experience with animals? • Family farms – experiences during high school • AI, Duties, Breeding schedules • Equine • Can't be own animal • Like can't be own cat & dog • If training & getting paid, THEN you include it

Completing the application • Personal statement • Include all relevant information • Don't explain your epiphany of why you want to be a vet • Describe what you will bring to the profession • Show your maturity • Give it straight and to the point • Don't make it a creative writing assignment • Do not explain the same things you stated in your experiences • What you learned from your experiences • What you learned outside of the profession • “learned to work as a team” • Describe how your experiences have given you a good understanding of the veterinary profession • Have you had opportunities to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, leadership and community service? • What are your goals?

Is the Applicant Qualified? • Does the applicant have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4 point scale? • Are all required courses completed or scheduled for completion by the end of Spring term 2010? (A maximum of 2 required science courses may be taken Spring term 2010 and a grade of C (2.0) or higher must be received in order to fulfill the science requirement) • Notify committee if something happens that is out of your control
