  4. What is key ? • Look at this list. • Choose 3 from here or from your experiences that you think are critical for a great School Leader. • Share with your shoulder partner • How do you know when someone has “it”?

  7. The Application • One Universal Application/Admin App • Complete and Update Application • Check each page • Update Confidential References • Attach Resume & Letter of Interest • Attach Front Page of Evaluation • For the last 5 years • The Questionnaire • Critical-take your time, be specific

  8. Applying • Apply for Principal Posting • All applicants considered for all 3 levels • HR Screens for “minimum qualifications” • 2 Essays sent out to candidates that meet “minimum qualifications”

  10. Essays • Two Essays • Follow the Directions • Answer our Questions • Complete in a timely manner-1 week • Application is incomplete and cannot be screened without essays • One Reminder

  15. The Interview Process • Level One Leadership (District) • Committee includes: • All 4 Area Superintendents • Activity • Questions • Short Notice • Skype Available • Conference Call

The Interview Process • Level Two School Interviews (Site) • Committee Includes: • Area Superintendent • 1 Sitting Principal • 1 Additional Administrator (district or site) • 3 Teachers • 2 Classified Staff • 3 Parents • 1 Community/Business Member • Student(s) when appropriate • Committee should reflect diversity of student population • Coordinated by HR

  17. Interview Decisions • Level One • Committee (Area Sups) determines if the candidate moves forward • Level Two • Committee and Area Superintendent make recommendations based upon the staff, parent, and student input • Final Decision • Always made by the Superintendent of Schools

  18. Other Critical Information • Apply Once • Can only be screened once • Level One Interviews • December-May • Level Two Interviews • May-August • Behavior Event Interview Style • 3 year Pools • Interviews will be video taped

  19. The Candidate Picture • Use the application process to create a picture of who you are as a school leader • What is your “Attitude” as a leader? • Identify your strengths and make sure we can see them • Make sure your picture is in focus

  20. Feedback & Communication • Most communication is done via email • We have reviewed and updated the communication process • Feedback • On Application • Not much can be given • On Level One Interviews • Verbal and written

  21. Recommendations • Have a mentor or colleague review your application, resume and letter of interest • Compare your Application Package to the 6 Criteria of Administrator Readiness • Remember this is highly competitive and rigorous selection process
