  2. Recipe for pancakes Mix together • 1 ¼ cup flour • ½ teaspoon of salt • 3 tablespoons of sugar • 1 tablespoon baking powder Then add • 2 eggs • ¾ cup of milk • 1 tablespoon vanilla (optional) Mix , then add • 4 tablespoons melted butter

  3. Recipe for spiritual maturity: • 1 cup of church • 4 doses of Prayer daily (3 meals and before you go to bed) • 15 minutes of daily Bible reading • 10% of your paycheck (called a tithe) • 1 small group or fellowship time during the week (optional)

  4. Is spiritual maturity just doing these on a regular basis? Need to check the attitude: • Checklist vs Attempt to know God • Duty vs Devotion • Sacrifice vs Obedience

  5. Spiritual Maturity is… becoming more and more like Jesus

  6. Spiritual growth is hard … because there’s a fight going on inside of us.

  7. Galatians 5:16-18 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

  8. Spirit and flesh(sinful nature) diametrically opposed • Spirit and flesh are in conflict with each other • Live by the Spirit you’ll be able to prevent yourself from gratifying the desires of the flesh.

  9. Galatians 5:19-21 • 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. • NLT 19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

  10. But there’s Good News Galatians 5:24-25 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

  11. Galatians 5:22-23 • 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
