  2. EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL’S STORM WATER MANAGEMENT GOALS • To support the Clean Water Act by: • A. Prevention of contamination of storm water • B. Education of our employees • C. Surveillance of our storm water system • D. Correction of any deficiencies found during surveillance.

  3. PREVENTION • ESH has an active program on the prevention of contamination of the Powhatan creek through the following activities: • a. Proper storage and disposal of chemicals, hazardous material, gas, oil and other pollutant material. • b. Maintenance and inspection of grounds, sewer systems and Powhatan Creek. • c. Education • d. Special volunteer clean up projects • e. Non-use of pesticides & fertilizers • f. The use of commercial car wash for government vehicles • h. Use of emergency call in number (757) 253- 5277 to report any suspected or actual contamination.

  4. EDUCATION • The goal of education is to raise the awareness of storm water contamination thereby reducing or eliminating potential sources of contamination. Sources of education are: • New & annual employee training • Technical training for B&G and Support Services staff who must maintain the integrity of the storm water system on ESH. • Monthly/quarterly reminders in the Hospital’s Weekly Bulletin. • Eastern State Hospital’s Web site.   5. SURVEILANCE OF EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL’S STORM WATER SYSTEM • Support services has the primary responsibility of monitoring/inspection of the grounds and the storm water system. • Employees and the general public have the responsibility to report potential or real contamination by calling 253-5277.

  6. CORRECTION OF DEFICIENCIES • Correction of deficiencies found or reported is the sole responsibility of Buildings & Grounds. These corrections can be within the capabilities of B&G, contracted, or reported to proper authorities if the contamination source is not within the parameters of Eastern State Hospital.
