  6. 500MB/4Dimage PB shipped Structured Unstructured 1MB/2Dimage 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2004 2009 Archiving Data Growth Statistics in Healthcare  Still a top problem for CFO’s, CIOs and IT Managers Up to 80% of data is reference data/fixed content (email, video, images) Storage capacity shipments are growing at 54% a year Example: Medical images will take up 30% of the world’s storage

  7. Requirements summary for Healthcare fixed content archives Massive and growing data volumes Information Lifecycle Management Common Enterprise Storage System Protect Patient Data and Records Data Outlives Hardware and Media Eliminate of Storage Silos and Promote Cooperation Critical nature of application reliability Address all cost components – 80% of archive cost is operations Any archive solution chosen should address each of these key requirements

  13. New New GMAS Version 2.1.2

  14. New GMAS 2.1.2 Goals and Benefits – GA July 30th Goal: Provide appliance like GMAS models that lower costs, improve quality /serviceability and can be sold more easily directly or thru partners. Specifically: • Drive even better TCO: • Reduce initial purchase price • Reduce services costs • Reduce ongoing environmental costs • Reduce footprint and power and cooling costs • Improve tolerance for simultaneous failures • Enable full remote support and updates • Streamline installation: • Pre-built and pre-configured in an IBM Solutions Center. • Minimal on-site services • Lower Costs: Overall cost savings from 6% to 17% on a per TB basis Note: GMAS Classic/ Custom models will still be available A substantial improvement to an industry leading archiving platform

  15. Server consolidation – Single Site - 42TB Protected Example • Original configuration uses 7 x3650 servers in a single site 42TB protected configuration • New configuration uses only 4 servers to provide the same functionality. • New configuration uses 4 x3550 servers in the same configuration, as opposed to x3650 servers. This reduces the total space needed from 14U to 4U in this configuration.

  16. Storage consolidation – Single Site - 42TB Protected Example • Original configuration used RAID 5+Spare • New configuration utilizes RAID6. • This allows for 2 simultaneous failures before the need to reference the redundant copy. This also allows us to better utilize hard drive space, requiring less physical disk, and therefore requiring less rack U space. 42TB Storage using RAID5 + Spare 42TB Storage using RAID6

  17. Power & Cooling Savings – Single Site - 42TB Protected Example • Due to our ability to better utilize servers and storage there is also a substantial power and cooling savings. 39% Power Reduction! 39% Reduction in BTU/hr! * Numbers are approximate

  18. On-Site Services – Single Site Example • The previous GMAS solution was shipped to the customer in parts, and put together at the customer site. • This caused the solution to require On-site customization services which added cost and complexity.

  19. On-Site Services – Single Site Example • The new GMAS configurations are shipped to the customer site racked, stacked, loaded with the GAM software and completely configured for that customer! Only installation, testing and customer training are required.

  20. xCAT management server • This server provides multiple functions including: • ServeRAID Management Server • Primary RSA Management Server • xCAT Management Server • What is xCAT? • All GMAS solutions will include an xCAT management server. • xCAT (Extreme Cluster Administration Toolkit) is a toolkit that is used for the deployment and administration of Linux clusters. Its features are based on user requirements, and many of its features take advantage of IBM xSeries hardware. • For more information about the functionality of xCAT see the xCAT website at http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/xCAT/
