  1. Macbeth Act III

  2. Act III Scene: I • The story begins in the Palace at forres. • Where Banquo is thinking nervously about the witches prophecies. • Witches said that Macbeth will become king. • Banquo is invited by Macbeth to join the feast their hosting that evening. • Where they will discuss the problem of Malcolm and Donalbain, who were plotting against the crown. • Macbeth shows how Banquo is the only man he needs to fear from taking his crown away. • Macbeth hires two men to murder Banquo. • But first Macbeth must make them seem as they have to seek revenge on Banquo. • The men agree to murder Banquo.

  3. Scene II • Macbeth is explaining that he still has a feeling of discontent. • Because he believes the problem is not yet finished. • That there are still threats to the throne. • He and his wife are planning to get rid of Banquo and Fleance, by first making them feel that they care for them.

  4. Scene III • The murderers that Macbeth hired wait outside the palace for Banquo and Fleance. • They kill Banquo, but Fleance gets away. • Before Banquo dies he tells his son to avenge his death.

  5. Scene IV • Feast begins with Macbeth and his wife entering as king and queen. • When Macbeth hears the news that Fleance escaped, he gets angry. • He feels his throne is still up for the taking if Fleance is still Alive. • Banquo appears as a ghost to Macbeth at the round table, Macbeth begins speaking to Banquo. • Embarrassing Macbeth and Lady Macbeth because the guest thought it was very odd. • Macduff no longer wants to become King. • So Macbeth plans to visit the witches to find out who is also a threat to the throne.

  6. Scenes V-VI • Witches know Macbeth will come tomato. • They plan to get rid of the sprits and images that cause him to feel insecure. • Banquo’s murder has been blamed on Fleance. • But Lennox and the lord believe that Macbeth is guilty of the Murders. • Macduff and Malcolm plan with the King of England to start a war with Scotland and kill Macbeth. • So that Scotland will be free from Macbeth.

  7. Themes • Ambition: Macbeth Ambition to take the throne results in deaths of Banquo and Duncan. • Absolutism: Macbeth wants all power in Scotland, power hungry. • Prophecy: The Witches prophecies started this whole thing of tyranny.
