  2. History of the Grotto • Joseph Giraudi – had cancer in leg that was going to be amputated • After praying for the Virgin’s intercession, he was healed • After being healed, he maintained his promise to devote his life to her and built the grotto in 1919

  3. Grotto Facts • Marble statue added in 1920s • People plant roses for devotion – has a very beautiful Rose Garden • After Giruadi’s death in 1953, the grotto was abandoned until the late 1970s when a group of women restored it • Today plans to add more flowers
