Functions and Issues • Protects the quality of drinking water in the U.S. • Focuses on all water used for drinking, above ground and under • Requires the EPA to identify and list unregulated contaminants. • Effects chemicals and pollutants that may be in water. • EPA has to oversee all water suppliers who implement these standards. • Does not cover private wells. • Protects underground sources of drinking water • Does not apply to bottled water because bottled water is regulated by the FDA

  3. Agency Responsible for Enforcing and Regulating • Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water (OGWDW) oversees implementation
