  1. Franklin Campus Loomis Basin Charter School Annual Update

  2. Traffic • ½ Hour lag time between each school’s starting and ending times. • Working with Fire Department and Placer County Sheriff Department to address abandoned cars in fire lanes.

  3. Safety • Coordinated fire and lockdown drills. • Staff members continue to do an excellent job of following safety protocols on each campus.

  4. Lunch • Principal Shaw asked by LUSD (Jay Stewart). • Increase lunch numbers. • Revenue generator for Food Service Department: • Saved jobs and hours for classified employees.

  5. STAR After School Program • Declining enrollment. • Addition of LBCS’s students increased STAR enrollment. • More economically viable STAR After School Program.

  6. Garden • Committees from Franklin and LBCS coordinating efforts for a joint garden. • Dirt area adjacent to synthetic turf field.

  7. PTC • LBCS families invited to attend recent Fall Festival. • LBCS will invite Franklin families to attend LBCS’ Winter Festival. • LBCS students supported Franklin’s kindergarten’s Friday ice cream fundraisers.

  8. Strings Program • Students from Franklin and LBCS participate in the after school program. • Increased numbers sustain this after school enrichment.

  9. Athletics • Cross-country and track. • Boys’ volleyball.

  10. Facility Use • Must be a LUSD approved third party group or organization. • Request is submitted to Franklin’s main office to use a facility. • PTC as well as the Franklin staff are notified, and have an opportunity to notify me if there will be a conflict prior to releasing the facility to the third party.

  11. Assemblies • 2008 – 2009: • Franklin PTC indicated a desire to provide more assemblies and enrichment opportunities for Franklin’s students. • We discussed potential opportunity for our students. • On Friday, November 6, 2009, Franklin and LBCS students attended Jim Weiss’ writing presentation.

  12. Future - Enrichment • A Franklin middle school teacher is currently exploring the use of the MAC-based program “Garage Band” which may result in an enrichment opportunity for your sons and daughters. • LBCS is permitting Franklin’s teacher to use its MAC lab, at no cost to Franklin, in order to develop the program.

  13. Future – Potential Solution • Geometry • Currently, Franklin’s 8th graders travel to Loomis Grammar School to attend an early morning geometry class. They are bused back to Franklin’s campus. • Possibility may exist to offer a geometry class on Franklin’s campus during regular school hours.

  14. Future – Economic Uncertainty • Committed to serve the students of our respective schools. • Continue to respect the individuality, values, and norms of each campus. • Provide the best educational experience for each of the families who entrust us with the safety, social, emotional, and intellectual development of their sons and daughters.

  15. LBCS Growth • 2010 – 2011, two (2) 6th grade classes; approximately 60 students. • 2011 – 2012, two (2) 7th grade classes; approximately 60 students. • 2012 – 2013, two (2) 8th grade classes; approximately 60 students. • 2013, K – 8 will be completed and LBCS will be approximately 500 +/- students.

  16. Campus’ Future Considerations • Cafeteria – lunch schedules. • Gymnasium – physical education, assemblies, practice times. • Coordination of Franklin’s and LBCS’s schedules. • All facilties, buildings, etc. are Loomis Union School District’s property.

  17. Opportunities for Your Children • Shared assemblies: • Jim Weiss • Shared enrichments: • Strings program, clubs, etc. • GATE program opportunities • Courses: • Future of music and physical education unknown. • Geometry could potentially be delivered at Franklin campus. • Potentially have enough students on this campus to sustain our own programs.
