  1. Formative Assessment – Year 1 Andrea N. Anthes, M.Ed. Virginia Commonwealth University

  2. Simon Sinek START WITH WHY.

  3. Passion for my job– I want to make a difference. • I never meet a stranger • Dedicated • Enthusiastic • Highly organized and productive • Strong written and oral communication skills • “I was impressed by your sincerity and evident desire to do well by both UMW and the students.” • - Dr. Reardon, reflecting on my Ethical Approach paper Leadership Strengths

  4. Competitive, sometimes to a fault • I like to be in control • Narrow breadth of work experience • Dr. Magill commented in our EDLP 700 class that those who have 3 or more “Use First” tendencies on the LCI, like to be in control. Leadership Opportunities for Growth

  5. Enthusiasm • Drive and Determination • Strong Support System • Writing Skills • Oral Presentations Skills • Ability to connect lessons with practical applications • Interpersonal Skills • Organizational Skills • “A treat to read. You show a deep sense of the complexity of the issues and you exhibit something of the writer’s craft– you drew me in to the narrative.” Dr. Reardon, commenting on my Ethical Issues Analysis paper • “You are a very strong writer with the keen ability to analyze. You are also able to take ‘theory’ and discuss it in a way that is practical and usable. Keep up the goodwork!” Dr. Arkin, reflecting on my Culminating Paper • “You had excellent eye contact! Your skills as a recruiter definitely showed through your presentation– very engaging presentation. The flow of your presentation was very clear. I enjoyed your approach!” Fellow LC3 student on my Oral Presentation in EDLP 715 Strengths as a Student

  6. Statistics • SPSS • Editing • APA • Distance • Time • Still place too much emphasis on grades • “Watch the use of non-specific pronoun” – Dr. Cowlbeck, on my… well, pretty much every paper.  • “I notice you use two spaces after the period. Check this, but I believe APA expects one space only. It certainly used to specify only one space (it took me ages to get used to one space). – Dr. Reardon, on my Ethical Approach paper. Opportunities for Growth as a Student

  7. Professional: • Obtain the Associate Dean of Admission Position at UMW and continue applying what I learn to my job • Educational: • Become an APA expert • Practice using SPSS and analyzing statistical data • Blog on a more regular basis • Read… non-text books Goals for 2013-2014

  8. So, WHY? “Earn your leadership every day.” Michael Jordan Thank you.
