THE RHÔNE-ALPES REGION • in economic terms Rhône-Alpes is France’s second largest region, after the Paris area with 5.65 million inhabitants (equivalent to Denmark or Finland), • the tenth among the largest European regions. • an area of 43 700 km², comparable to Switzerland or the Netherlands

  4. Grenoble, the largest urban area in the French Alps, boasts a unique mountain setting and through the centuries has made its marks as a pioneering city open to the world. It has a strategic position in Europe: • 50 minutes from Lyon, 1h30 from Geneva and 2 h from Turin, 3h from Paris by TGV high-speed train, close to two international airports. • a very high economic and touristic development, among the most important European economic areas • Fields of activity : • agriculture : It is made remarkable by many regional specialities with the AOC label, enhanced by a dynamic farm-produce industry ;

  5. a highly diversified leading industrial sector Traditional sectors that have adapted to technical progress (chemistry, textile, mechanics, wood, paper,...) High-tech activities (electronics, informatics, biotechnology, nanotechnology...) the service industry and summer and winter tourism

  6. The regional educational authority in Grenoble represents, 5 main administrative divisions of France Ardèche (07), Drôme (26), Isère (38), Savoie (73), Haute-Savoie (74) 2, 879 208 inhabitants 4.9 % of the French population

A vibrant cultural scene • rich with museums: • Musée de Grenoble (the oldest museum of modern art in France), • Musée Dauphinois • Musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation, • Muséum d'Histoire naturelle, • the Baroque paths in Savoie, • the Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc prehistoric cave in Ardèche, • rich with musical festivals - "38ème Rugissants", "Jazz à Vienne", • rich with cinema festivals – Grenoble (short featuresfilms in open air), Autrans (mountain and adventure), Annecy (international festival of cartoon films, « Annecy Italian cinema », «Annecy Spanish cinema »), St-Gervais (humor)… • and many long-feature shootings in the area
