  3. Support for NH RESPONDSis provided by the NH Bureau of Special Education, NH Department of Education under a State Personnel Development Grant from the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services

  4. NH RESPONDS Grant NH RESPONDS: Professional Development for Excellence in Education is a professional development (pre-service and in-service) grant focused on development and implementation of an integrated Response to Intervention system of literacy and behavior support that includes secondary transition supports at the high school level, implemented with fidelity resulting in improved student outcomes.

NH RESPONDS Lead Partners • NH Dept. of Education- Bureau of Special Education • NH Center for Effective Behavioral Interventions and Supports at SERESC • Expertise in Positive Behavior Supports • Expertise in integration of mental health and school supports • Institute on Disability at University of New Hampshire • Expertise in Literacy within an RtI model • Expertise in PBIS and Intensive Interventions (RENEW) for Secondary Transition and Dropout Prevention • Parent Information Center • Expertise in effective family involvement and communications

NH RESPONDS primary strategies for RTI Systems Change: • Demonstration Sites - comprehensive training and support in demonstration sites (K-12 schools and early childhood programs) in five SAUs. • Pre-service - work with institutions of higher education and other key stakeholders to improve pre-service educator preparation programs in grant related areas; align with certification standards from NH DOE. • Statewide Trainings – trainings offered yearly in grant areas to increase participants’ knowledge and skills.

NH RESPONDS 7 RTI General Principles Describe, promote and sustain the features, logic, and application of a 3 tiered school improvement model (this includes: consensus building, infrastructures, and implementation) Describe and apply data-based decision making and action planning to guide school improvement Describe and apply effective, efficient and collaborative team meeting processes and leadership to impact student outcomes Describe and apply the multiple purposes of assessments (including screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring) Utilize research and evidence based curriculum, instruction and interventions and monitor for fidelity of implementation Provide high quality job embedded outcome-driven professional development aligned with school improvement Facilitate effective communication between internal and external stakeholders including parents

Pre-Service • Developed RTI competencies for administrators and coaches in content areas • Pre-service educator preparation programs incorporating general RTI competencies into course work at 4 IHEs (PSU, KSC, UNH, Rivier) to improve teacher preparation • Will be sharing competencies with NH Educator Effectiveness Taskforce members and NH Professional Standards Board

RTI Statewide Training Annually provided a 2-part NH RESPONDS RTI training in literacy or behavior to other NH schools interested in RTI • 2009 – Tier 1 – 200 participants - 34 teams • 2010 – Tier 2 – 115 participants – 14 teams • 2011 – Tier 3 – 115 participants – 20 teams (5 teams attended all 3 tier trainings and 6 additional teams attended at least 2 tiers of training)
