Lack of Safe Drinking Water • In Sub-Saharan Africa less than 50% of people have safe drinking water • Lack of Basic Sanitation • Feces Disposal Problem • Carried into rivers where people and livestock drink, bathe, etc • Diseases • Cholera occurs in places with poor sanitation, crowding, war, and famine.

  6. Fact • 1 child dies every 15 seconds from illnesses from dirty water = crashing 20 jumbo jets everyday • 240 an hour • 5760 a day

Questions: Bottom of Page 67 • How does the lack of water impact industry and development? • Need water for people • Need water to run factories and industries • How does the lack of water impact agriculture? • Plants can’t grow without water. • How does irrigation (the watering of dry land) help agriculture? • Plants can be grown further out from a water source. Therefore, you increase arable land.
