  2. Loss of members to broadband • Broadband is increasing in popularity • GFN dial-in difficulties • Out download times limited by telco • Broadband moving to rural areas by Broadband over Powerline implementation • GFN is old technology

  3. Mail System Failures • Installation of new server did not deliver as promised. • Reset of new server caused a four day lapse in service for the whole site. • Board chair will not go into the cabinet any more, honest! • System limits affect download and upload times for graphic rich websites and emails.

  4. Mail System Spam • Most common member complaint is too much spam. • Feedback from non-renewals is too much spam. • Most of Systems committee resources are directed towards ongoing spam evolution. • Having spam is constant irritant.

  5. Cost of Internet System • $27,314 Fees to OTC and Telnetww for cabinet modems and office • $2000 for new server • $600 for new computer • $100 for new monitor • $249 for combination scanner, copier, fax machine

  6. Increasing Costs • 10% pass-through cost from OTC. • No long term Telnetww contract. • Business Insurance cost going up for same coverage. • We reduced Liability Insurance coverage by ½ two years ago and new rate is almost as much cost as old coverage. • Taking $1500 out of savings each month to pay bills

  7. Lack of Volunteers • Increase Public Relations in existing service areas • Develop a brand identity for GFN. • Support local activities with advertising. • Use Letter to Editors columns to increase our recognition to the communities that we serve. • Empower our members to be spokespersons for GFN.

  8. Opportunities • Improve services • Improve System Stability • State wide expansion • Mail Service outsourcing • Eliminate co-location charges • Target area advertisement for Selected rural areas • Relocation to Flint Downtown to save on telephone cost and rent
