  2. Health, Dental & Vision Insurance • As of September 1, 2011 Children covered to age 26, • who are not covered by another employer’s coverage • Do NOT need to be a student • Must complete a new enrollment form by September 1, 2011 or open enrollment rules will apply in the future

Preventative Care as of Sept 1 • No co-pay for lab work or Dr. visits if the visit is only for the preventative care • If a diagnosis comes up during the visit, there will be a co-pay • Mammograms • Pap Smears • Colonoscopy • Adult immunizations like flu, hepatitis A & B, human papilloma, measles, tetanus, pneumonia

  4. Preventative Care • Screening for alcohol misuse & tobacco use • Screening for sexually transmitted diseases including HIV • Screening blood pressure • Depression screening • BREAKING NEWS – Janaury 1, 2013 • Birth Control will have no co-pay

  5. New Rate as of September 1 • Drum Roll, Please …… • The rates went DOWN 5% ! • Why? • A. Blue Cross Blue Shield are nice guys • B. Cost of prescriptions and medical procedures is going down • C. Benefits are decreasing • D. None of the above

  6. Answer • Health Insurance Premiums are based on the payments made to ASC employees and their family.

Prescription Drugs • Generic Drugs - $5 or 10% • Preferred Brand Name - $15 – 40% • Non-Preferred Brand Name - $30- 50% • How your doctor writes the prescription will determine whether you pay less and the plan pays less. • ASC employees doing well this past year – 75% of RX filled were generic.

Prescriptions • Pill splitting – talk with your doctor • Mail Order – get 90 days for two co-pays not three • Shop around – Walmart has many prescriptions for $4 for 30 day supply • Take medication as prescribe • Proper time of day • Consistency – not magic • Do not stop taking it unless directed by a doctor • Discuss side effects with your doctor

  15. Life Style Change • Lose those extra pounds • Improve knee and back pain • Get a 10 pound bag of flour, or rice. Rest one hand palm down on a counter top. Put the 10 pound bag on top of your hand. Pretend your hand is a foot and just lift it up an inch or so, move it forward a few inches and put it down. Repeat 10 times. How does your hand feel?

Life Style Change • Lose those extra pounds • Reduce your blood pressure • Reduce your risk of developing diabetes • If you develop diabetes due to being over weight, it is often too late to reverse the condition • It is predicted in just a few years there will not be enough Endocrinologist to treat all the diabetics in the U.S.

Social Media and ASC • If you indentify your employer as ASC of SUNY Cortland • Statement: “These comments and pictures are my personal comments and not those of Auxiliary Services Corporation of SUNY Cortland” • Even with this you must still abide by all ASC policies even when off-duty and using your personal technology • No ASC logo may be used online without permission of management.

Social Media and Employment • YouTube video of Dominos Pizza workers adulterating food fired and charged with a felony • Nurse who discussed a well-known patient on her Face book page was fired for violating confidentiality rules • Matthew Azzano, an employee at Correctional Facility in Ohio, was fired when it became known that he was posting threatening and racial comments on his Face book page.

  38. Social Media and Employment • A insurance worker called in sick, telling her employer that she could not sit in front of a computer and needed to lie in the dark. The gig was up, however, when a colleague saw that she was active on Face book. • NY Jets employee fired for making derogatory remarks about players
