Collective Vision, Community Impact School Readiness • The Challenge • Ensuring that all of Fresno County’s children are ready for school, ready to learn • The Community Solution • 2012: First 5 Fresno County funded KSEP • Four largest school districts agree to use tool • FCOE was chosen project lead; other partners • In 2013-14, three additional schools use tool • The Outcome • 121 schools, 10,628 students assessed in 2012 • 80% of Fresno Co. kindergarteners assessed • “Ready to go,” monitoring or immediate follow-up

Collective Vision, Community Impact Chronic Absence • The Challenge • Removing barriers to attendance of students most in need in Chula Vista Elementary School District • The Community Solution • Developing Parent Toolkit for staff/leaders • Principals work with teachers, parents, students • School Attendance Review Board offers support • Promise Neighborhoods demonstration site • The Outcome • Created pilot District Attorney Mediation program • 32 schools (71%) chronic absence is 3% or less • 2012-13 ADA average is 96.35%

Collective Vision, Community Impact Summer Learning • The Challenge • Providing summer programs and providers needed resources, support and networking opportunities to best address summer learning loss and the needs of at-risk youth. • The Community Solution • Increase in high-quality summer programs • Convened summer learning community • Shared research, evaluation metrics, best practices aligned with NSLA • The Outcome • An increase in number of children participating 60% of students maintained reading level • 20% increased reading level by 1 grade • 20% increased reading level by 2 grades

Collective Vision, Community Impact Parent Engagement • The Challenge • To provide creative opportunities for parents to support and encourage their child’s learning • The Community Solution • Passport to Success • Encourages families to visit museum & libraries • Families receive “passports” that can be stamped at 37 museums and 73 libraries • Students return passports to school in Sept. • The Outcome • 40,000 LAUSD students/families, 69 schools • 81% of parents report child ready for school in Fall • 71% say child shows more interest in learning
