  1. COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE

  2. ABOUT COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE Commedia dell’Arte is known as “professional theatre” and began in Italy in the early 16th century. The genre spread quickly throughout Europe, most noticeably in France and was a fundamental influence in a number of theatre styles: slapstick comedy, improvisation, opera, musical theatre, physical theatre, vaudeville and later, TV sitcoms. Known for being fundamentally human by planting itself in the immediacy of life through universal themes and basic human necessities, Commedia dell’Arte is characterised by its stock characters, masks, improv and physical comedy. The timeless representation of humanity through four identifiable archetypes: zanni, vecchi, innamorati, capitani, bring to life the conflict and status differences existing in everyday life in all cultural contexts. Commedia dell’Arte can be found in the work of Moliere, Lecoq, Shakespeare, Fo and in a range of contemporary theatre, film and TV artists.

  4. COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE UPCOMING EVENTS In addition to our fully fledged Commedia dell’Arte shows, in 2014, Corinna will do a complete 180 and strip back Commedia dell’Arte to its bare minimum: universal themes and basic human necessities.  Corinnahas received the rights to stage Geoff Gillham’s six plays for theatre in education, which is an invaluable collection focussing on young peoples’ search for their humanness through their involvement with the plays, whether as actors or audience. Corinna debuts this series with The Bone Cage; a young girl is imprisoned by her own turmoil to remain captive or to escape when the cage is left open – or is she?

  5. COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE SHOPS Commedia dell’Arte leather masks in Australia have been costly to source, leaving teachers with no choice but to buy latex masks. Latex prevents the skin to breathe, it can cause severe skin irritations and a growing number of people are becoming allergic. Additionally, latex masks can tear and wear down over extended use.
