  9. Who are they? Your Campus, Our Community, Our Kids Volunteer organization in which meaningful, monitored matches are made between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. Largest national donor and volunteer supported mentoring network with over 400 affiliated agencies nationwide Locally they have served more than 791 young people in this community

BBBS Programs Your Campus, Our Community, Our Kids Lunch Buddies The lunch buddies program is a one-to-one mentoring program in which you are matched with a 2nd , 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader at either Ben Franklin, McGuffy, or Carson Elementary. With this program you would go to the child’s school and join them for their lunch and recess hour. Clem Reads Become a reading tutor! You would be matched one-on-one to read with students at John Clem Elementary. The volunteer comes to John Clem during his or her study hall or free time and reads with a student for about ½ hour weekly. Times can be worked out to accommodate the volunteer anytime from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Training is provided.

Your Campus, Our Community, Our Kids Newark City Schools • 49% of district residents classified as “economically disadvantaged” • 13% of Newark residents have a 4-year college degree • 73% students graduated from high school in 2009 • 33% going to college after high school Young people with a Big Brother or Sister are*: • 52% more likely to attend school • 46% less likely to use drugs • 27% less likely to use alcohol • 30% less likely to hit someone to resolve their problems *According to a Public/Private Ventures study.
