The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners • Society honors good acting – Oscars, money, press, political power & influence. • We live in a world where “make believe” takes priority over reality – Recognition, financial reward, influence, participation . . . • Satan - the biggest promoter of “make believe” – John 8:44; 2 Cor. 11:14; 1 John 2:15-17

The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners • There are hypocrites in the church – not a new problem, not an isolated problem, a destructive problem. • Some of the Lord’s harshest criticisms were directed toward hypocrites – Mat. 23 • The hypocrite seeks the approval of men, not God – and their reward will be here and now – not heaven – Mat. 6:1-18

  4. The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners The Shameless Display of Hypocrisy . . . What Is Seen In Our: • Deeds – Charitable Acts of Service – Mat. 6:1-4 • Devotion – Worship And Praise – Mat. 6:5-15 • Discipline – Self Control And Acts of Humility – Mat. 6:16-18

The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners The Sinister Danger of Hypocrisy . . . • Idolatry – Rom. 1:25; loves the praises of men more than the praises of God – John 12:43; Rom. 2:29 • Deception – ofothers – Mat. 6:1-18; ofself – James 1:21-27; Ez. 33:30-33 • Harms others – Gal. 2:11-14; Mat. 23:13-15; 15:14 • Keeps ones self out of heaven – Mat. 7:21-23; They have their reward, (2,5,16)

The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners The Need For Serious Discernment . . . • Have I ever failed to serve God because I was concerned about what others might think? • Do I do spiritual things – but always make sure others know about it? • Is my private life consistent with my public life? • Are you wounded when others get credit for what you did?

The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners The Need For Serious Discernment . . . • Have I ever stopped serving, giving, or attending because I was not recognized? • Have I ever accepted praise for something I didn’t do? • Am I discouraged or defeated in my service to God because I find out someone else is a hypocrite?

  8. The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners The Need To Be Genuine & Sincere . . . What Is Seen In Our: • Deeds – Charitable Acts of Service – Mat. 6:1-4 • Devotion – Worship And Praise – Mat. 6:5-15 • Discipline – Self Control And Acts of Humility – Mat. 6:16-18

  9. The Reward of Religious Academy Award Winners • Hypocrisy needs to be confronted – (Gal. 2:11,14) • Hypocrisy needs to be admitted – (1 John 1:9) • Hypocrisy needs to be repented of – (Rev. 2:5; 3:19) • Good deeds and habitual worship cannot substitute for genuine conversion – (1 Tim. 1:5)
