  1. Math 4-5: Similar Polygons Objective: How to identify similar polygons and find missing measures of similar polygons.

  2. Vocabulary • polygon – a closed figure in a plane formed by three or more line segments • similar – polygons with the same shape (not necessarily the same size) • corresponding parts – parts of congruent or similar figures that match • congruent – the same measure • scale factor – the ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides of two similar polygons

  3. Similar Polygons • 2 polygons are similar if • corresponding angles are congruent (have same measure) AND • corresponding sides are proportional

  4. Similar Polygons

  5. Identify Similar Polygons

  6. Identify Similar Polygons

  7. Scale Factor • ratio of lengths of two corresponding sides of two similar polygons The scale factor from square ABCD to square LMNO is 6/3 or 2 The scale factor from square LMNO to square ABCD is 3/6 or 1/2

  8. Find Missing Measures

  9. Assignment • 4-5 PS (a) • Graphing Activity – due 10/28 Chapter 4 Test – 10/28
