  2. Being Safe • Keep hands, feet and objects to self • Walk to destination • Follow entry and dismissal directions

  3. Be Respectful • Follow adult directions • Stay with class and teacher • Be a respectful participant at all events

  4. Be Responsible • Follow procedures for various assemblies and events (ex. basketball games have different expectations than a music assembly) • Demonstrate school pride and good sportsmanship • Follow all school rules • Report to activity at the time of the scheduled event and have ride prearranged.

  5. Expectations are Important Because…… • Everyone will enjoy the event more if we demonstrate safe, responsible, and respectful behavior. • We represent our school and community in these opportunities. This is a life skill that will transfer to venues throughout life. • We are showing North is a great place – we want the community to say:“ Wow North students are GREAT!”

  6. Assemblies and Special Events • Special events could include: music concerts, variety show, author visit, sports recognition assemblies, Geography Bee etc. • Your behavior needs to match the event. • For example if your are listening to a music concert or a geography bee the audience needs to be quiet and applause at appropriate times. • A basketball game or pep assembly the audience cheers and interacts to show North pride.

  7. Assembly Procedures Enter Here • Leave books and materials in your classroom. • Go straight to assembly- walking with your teacher. • Enter through the back of the gymnasium and follow teacher to designated seating area. • Sit with your class. Leave Books In Class!

  8. Assembly Procedures (cont.) • Get quiet as soon as an adult is asking for you attention • Keep hands and feet to selves and keep your eyes on the performance.

  9. Assembly Procedures (cont.) • When anyone is speaking on the microphone, please be respectfully quiet. • Attention signal: two whistle blasts, followed by two student claps and quiet. 2 whistles 2 claps

  10. Assembly Procedures (cont.) • During the assembly be a respectful participant, clap when appropriate, cheer when appropriate, demonstrate school pride and good sportsmanship.

Assembly Procedures (cont.) • For dismissal, stay seated until directed to leave. • Facilitator will cue the teachers to come down off bleachers and stand in front of their section. • Facilitator begin dismissal, by releasing sections of students closest to the back gymnasium doors while all other students remain seated. Stay off the gym floors when dismissed.

  12. Dance GuidelinesSchool Rules: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful • Be on time to the dance. Door closes fifteen minutes after starting time. • Students should not arrive at the dance any earlier than 5 minutes before the dance starts. • May not leave early unless checked out by a parent.

  13. Dance Guidelines • Only North middle school students are allowed to be at the dance. • No grinding/dirty dancing—between same or opposite genders. • No dancing chest to chest—need to have a little space. • If it seems dangerous, it’s not allowed.

Dance Guidelines • Transportation home needs to be arranged before the day of the dance. • Standard dress code expectations are in effect. • Personal belongings should not be brought to the dance. • The following behavior is inappropriate and unsafe: running or chasing, throwing items, laser lights, disrupting decorations, or body-contact.

  15. Dance Guidelines • When the music stops and the lights come on, immediately leave the premises in a quiet, orderly fashion. • All school policies governing student behavior are enforced during the dances. • Once you leave the dance you may not return.

  16. Dance Guidelines • Food must stay in the cafeteria. • Students must be either in the big gym, small gym, cafeteria or gym restrooms. They are not allowed to roam around or just hang out in the hallways. • Restrooms will be monitored; students are not allowed to just hang out there.

  17. DANCE FEVER! DRESS CODE REMINDERS - All dress code rules apply to school dances.

  18. Sporting Events • Spectators must stay out of practice and/game areas until slightly before game starts. • Students may arrive at the scheduled time of the event. • Students must follow teacher or staff directions at all times.

  19. Sporting Events • Exhibit good sportsmanship. What is good sportsmanship? No negative or insulting comments. • Exhibit respect for other schools, participants, and officials. Remember they are our guests and should be treated as such. • Remember to use trash receptacles. Clean up after yourself • Use bleachers in the gym responsibly.

  20. Sporting Events • School dress code is in effect at all NORTH functions. • Arrange transportation home prior to game day. When the event is over, leave campus immediately.

  21. Sporting Events • During the event be a respectful participant: clap when appropriate, cheer when appropriate, and demonstrate school pride and good sportsmanship. • Students not being attentive to the game or event must be off campus.
