These are three commonly confused HOMOPHONES,

but each have different meanings

People who mix up there, their and they\'re drive me crazy! It\'s worse than not knowing the difference between your left and your write.

THERE
  • There means in or at the place pointed to, indicated or referred to.
  • There refers to a PLACE (specified or unspecified).
  • It can also be used to show that something exists.

The opposite of THERE is HERE(if you can replace there with here it is correct).

their
THEIR
  • Their is a possessive pronoun that means

“to belong.”

  • Their shows OWNERSHIP.
  • Their is used to indicate possession. If you can replace “their” with “our” you are using the correct word.
they re
THEY’RE
  • They’re is used as a contraction which means “they are.” If you can say the words

“they are” in the sentence, then you are using

the correct form.

Example: The following sounds FUNNY…….

The dog sat over they are for ten minutes.

Correct: They’re thinking of getting a dog.

They are thinking of getting a dog.
