  1. Introduction • The Five Pillars of Islam are the foundation for the practice of Islam. Work in a small group and create a poster for each of the five duties. Use the poster to express the importance of the pillar and to explain it more fully.

  2. Task • Review the discussion of the Five Pillars on pg. 95. Then use web resources to research and learn more about each pillar. • Complete “The Five Pillars of Islam” webquest sheet. Use the web resources to answer all the questions on this sheet. • With your group, discuss how to develop each poster. Decide on the ideas you want to present and illustrations or symbols you want to use to explain them. Decide on a unifying style/theme for your posters so they look uniform and it is clear they go together. • Work together to produce the posters and be ready to present them to the class.

Project Checklist • We have illustrated & explained all five Pillars of Islam • We have carefully & respectfully explainedthe duties of a Muslim (5 facts required) • The illustrations on the poster help the viewer understand the topic (3 required) • Each illustration has been outlined & colored neatly • Each poster reflects a high-quality effort & is error free

  4. Five Pillars of IslamGroup Poster Project Grading Rubric: Content 25 points (5 pts. for written explanation of your pillar. Do you explain what the pillar is and why it is important to Muslims? Are there at least 5 bullet points?) Illustrations 15 points (5 pts. for each illustration. Do you have 3 symbols/illustrations that represent the meaning of the assigned pillar and its significance. ) Spelling 5 points Neatness & Organization 5 points (Is your poster neatly presented? Does your poster match the style of other posters in your group?)
