  1. Energy Conservation Adam Proctor , SaifSleiman, Khalil, Mohammed Lari, Chris

  2. What’s this all about? *To make electricity we need to burn fossil fuels like coal and oil. These natural resources are used in factories that give off Co2 emissions or carbon dioxide. * This causes two problems. It is causing small holes in the Ozone layer which protects our Earth from the harmful rays of the Sun. It is also contributing to global warming, which if not dealt with now will eventually cause mass floods killing millions of people.

  3. Real Life Example • A couple lost their 25 year old son, in a fire at home on June 4th. The son who had graduated with a MBA from the University of Wisconsin two weeks earlier had come for a visit. His father told him to wait for him to pick up his mother from work before leaving. So the son decided to take a nap with the laptop on his stomach turned on. Sometime later the neighbors called 9.1.1, but it was already too late. The house was burnt to the ground with him in it. What caused the fire was the laptop’s cooling fan that was blocked by the bed sheets. It overheated and the son died inhaling too much carbon monoxide.

  4. Some simple examples… A typical PS3 uses an estimation of 200Watts per hour. The average gamer plays for 2-3 hours. If the game is intense a player can go up to 5 hours or more. 5 hours x 200 watts = 1000 watts Guess how much it takes to power an entire home? 6000 watts! Imagine how many houses a gamer powers per year!

  5. What should we do now? • *We’re not asking you much. All you need to do is: • *to turn off the electrical sockets after using you electrical devices! This saves energy and hurts the environment less. • * Play video games less than you usually do. *Use the computer less than you usually do. *Only use your technology for a long time if it’s absolutely necessary. • Turn off the lights when leaving rooms you’re not in! • Turn off the AC if you’re not in the room. • What’s the point of having it on if you’re not in the room?!

  6. Fluorescent vs. Incandescent • The incandescent light bulb uses 40-75 Watts per hour. • While the Fluorescent light bulb uses only 9-13 watts per hour. VS
