Generation Z Wants More Sleep and Less Free Speech • In a global poll of Generation Z, “only around half globally thought that free speech should be protected even if offensive to a religion or minority group.” • “It was higher in countries such as Turkey and Argentina, where there is a history of censorship.” • “…In the United Kingdom and France and the US – those historical champions of free speech – less than two-thirds believe in these freedoms.”

WEF on the Impact of Digital Media on Individuals, Organizations and Society • “Digital media can be used by communities with harmful intentions to spread propaganda and to mobilize followers.” • “By selecting what information reaches which users, digital media can alter human decisions and pose risks to civil society.” • “Digital media consumption may facilitate bullying, harassment and social defamation.” • “Benefits of digital media for young children are limited, when used extensively and without guidelines.”

New Tanzanian Law ThreatensFree Speech • Tanzania’s government has put forward a new law that will regulate content online within the country. • “Bloggers, social media influencers and online platforms will now have to apply for a licence and pay a fee of $930 if they want to keep their sites up.” • Local rights groups are concerned that this law will limit freedom of expression.
