Do You Know? • Evidence shows that brief behavioral counseling sessions with pharmacotherapy with PCPs is effective for improving smoking cessation rates: • Counseling <10 minutes can increase the rate of smoking cessation with abstinence of one year • Longer counseling sessions provide even higher results • Quit rates plateau after 90 minutes of counseling • Even minimal interventions (<3 minutes) increase quit rates U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF, 2009)
