  2. 4. General Assembly 1). Overview of general assembly: QEA-D32T180. NOT FINAL DRAWING. DO NOT USE 32mm bore 180mm core length 48 turns per water cooled coil Max gradient 55 T/m ATF2Quad Fabrication Status Cherrill Spencer 01/10/06

  3. What’s happened: late Dec ’05- Jan ‘06 • First core was measured on a CMM- results were sent out, hyperbola shapes not satisfactory-some bumps and dips outside the tolerance band. They modified the EDM program to have many more control points, thin test piece had much better shape, and 2nd core is being machined, will be measured by CMM, Spencer will inspect data • Hollow conductor arrived ~20th Dec, insulation arrived ~27th Dec • First two main coils were wound and potted • First coil was cut in half and a thin cross section made. • Video conference held on 9th/10th January amongst IHEP, KEK and SLAC to inspect the cut coil via TV and discuss measurement plan • We inspected the turn’s pattern and quality of impregnation of the epoxy– looked fine, so they will continue to wind and pot coils • By ~ 16th January - first magnet will be assembled • Between now and ~20th Jan new, custom rotating coil system will be tested • By ~ 27th January first magnet will be measured at IHEP by the new system. KEK people will be there. Standardization procedure will be developed. • If first quad looks OK production assembly will be given go-ahead. ATF2Quad Fabrication Status Cherrill Spencer 01/10/06

  4. First main coil, before trim added, before potting ATF2Quad Fabrication Status Cherrill Spencer 01/10/06

  5. First main coil after trim added and both potted together. G10 fillers where # turns decrease Epoxy has no Al2O3 filler and so is transparent. Trim coil Ground wrap has become transparent through the potting process Dimensions of first coil meet tolerances. Resistance as expected. A 2.5mm ball was pushed through the conductor, indicating the water passage is clear. Two 1st coils been placed over 2 core quadrants- everything fits OK.
